About this site
Progressive Inspection is an independent guide to home inspections, written for people buying, selling and owning homes, with a focus on Southern California.
What this site is
A reference library. It explains what home inspectors check, what their findings mean, which California rules apply, and what to do next. It covers each system of the house, common hazards, guides for buyers, sellers and owners, and notes on housing across Orange County, San Diego County and the Inland Empire.
What this site is not
- Not an inspection company. We don't perform inspections, sell reports or book appointments.
- Not a directory. We don't list, rank or take payment from inspectors or contractors.
- Not professional advice. Every house is different. Use these guides to ask better questions of qualified, licensed professionals. See our disclaimer.
How the guides are written
Guides are based on published standards of practice from inspector associations, California statutes and agency guidance, and federal sources such as the Consumer Product Safety Commission, HUD and the EPA. Rules change, so each page shows when it was last reviewed. Our resources page lists the primary sources.
We use three ratings for hazards, mirroring how many reports sort findings: , and .
A note on this domain's history
For many years, progressiveinspection.com was the website of a home inspection business in Southern California. That business is not connected with this site, and nothing here should be read as its work, opinions or endorsement. After the domain lapsed in 2024, it was briefly used by unrelated sites. It has since been rebuilt as the independent guide you are reading, keeping the subject the domain was known for.
If you are looking for a specific inspector who used this address in the past, a search of the California Secretary of State business records or a professional association's member directory is the best place to start.
